The Extraordinary Women of Rwanda

This International Women's Day, we're celebrating the extraordinary women of Rwanda.

In the hills of northern Rwanda, a group of women are growing more than coffee - they're growing opportunity and community.

They call themselves Hingakawa, meaning "let us grow coffee." What began as a small group of women coming together after unimaginable loss in 1994, has grown into a collective of around 150 farmers, proudly producing coffee as part of the Abakundakawa co-op.

Learning to farm from scratch, they rebuilt livelihoods, skills and trust along the way. Today they grow and process their coffee together, carving out new possibilities for women in coffee.

Today, the Hingakawa group continues to inspire through the resiliance and unity behind every harvest.
