In the UK, more than 14,000 people wear the green apron and work in our support centre, and around half of Starbucks partners (employees) are under the age of 25. All partners working in our company-operated stores are paid the National Living Wage, whether they’re an apprentice, trainee or barista, and are eligible for benefits such as 30% off in-store and online discounts, plus RSUs with the Bean Stock programme. Starbucks Apprenticeship Scheme (level 2 – 6)1,000 apprentices have been offered places on our apprenticeship scheme since 2012. And of our first intake many have gone on to run their own stores or progressed through the company in our support centre.
We’ve since committed to providing another 1,000 apprenticeships in the UK, and have also announced higher level apprenticeships and professional qualifications. Our partners can study to degree level, earning while they learn new skills in management, digital and IT. We also provide literacy, numeracy and language skills training for partners. Headstart with StarbucksRun in partnership with The Challenge, The Mayor of London, and AGL Education, Headstart helps young people volunteer in their communities, while also learning invaluable communication and business skills. Participants have successfully launched community projects and have improved their employment prospects. Learn more here.
Home Sweet LoanTo assist partners with the rising costs of housing, we launched the Tenancy Deposit Loan Scheme in September 2015.
The programme offers an interest-free loan to help partners pay their rental deposit when moving into a new home. The scheme, developed with Shelter, is the first of its kind to be launched by a private company in the UK.
